We live in busy times and yet precious moments are slipping past with us engaged in most activities with our half-attention, or less. Here are only a few recent examples:

I see children with their parents completely distracted by technology (cell phone, iPhone, etc.) instead of engaging in conversation, and yet we have the audacity to demand that those same children snap to attention when we want it!
In restaurants I see couples sharing a meal with both people obviously distracted by private thoughts instead of enjoying the moment of now fully engaged with each other.
I responded to a request from a prospect and in those 10 minutes of trying to connect and give her something of value, she took two other calls. (Needless to say, this is all the information I needed to decide she is not my next new client. When we cannot give our full attention to someone who genuinely wants to help us, our priorities need a major adjustment.)

I see the inefficiency of fragmentation. Checking and responding to emails as they come in; acting on every mental impulse to do something other than what you're currently doing; telling others you can focus on them while you're doing two or three other tasks (and believing the lie, because if you called a bullshit on yourself, you'd have to actually take responsibility and change your behavior).

I'm not exempt. Believe me, I get distracted by the next shiny object as much or more than anyone else on the planet. And I pride myself on efficiency and my ability to manage many tasks at one time. BTW, when did that become an admirable trait?! (It's the perfect recipe for fragmentation at its best and insanity at its worst.)

However, when it comes to engaging with others in a meaningful way--whether in person, via telephone or via email--I am committed to consistently being fully present; giving those in front of me my very best... now that's a present!

You can never give your kid another childhood. You can never re-do an evening out with your beloved. You never get another chance to make a first impression on someone who can help you thrive in business.

Whatever you do, do it with your full, focused attention.

A Manifesto for Conscious Men

Blessed by knowing--and having intimate relationships with--extraordinary, conscious men over the past 20 years, there is NOTHING like being the object of their affection and focus.

However, women must understand that serving humanity in this capacity (modeling the empowered feminine) is a great responsibility, not a one-way love-fest in which the worshiper is treated as "less-than." Quite the contrary; in this process men are elevated as never before, but in completely different ways than they are now.

We are their teachers of those characteristics labeled "feminine" by societal standards: compassion, collaboration, community-building, communication, etc.

As awakened women we must do our part in nourishing the finest of both masculine and feminine traits in our men (and in ourselves). For when we do, the finest in them is revealed. They will step up to be our companions on this journey in brand new ways. We were never intended to do this alone. We genuinely need conscious men to celebrate and assist us as we rise up to collectively shift this planet.

There are many approaches to pricing copyediting client projects. Options include per-project, per-page, per-word, etc. as well as flexible payment options, but essentially it comes down to one thing: the actual time and expertise involved to become familiar with your business and copyedit your content through this lens.

Let me explain:

When prospective clients contact me, it is the perfect opportunity to teach them about the inner-workings of a professional copyediting business so they have the most positive experience. Often they make understandable assumptions about the cost, process and turnaround times; they simply don’t know, and why would they? 98% of them have never worked with a skilled copyeditor in any capacity.

For the purpose of this article, I will focus on the process.

As a consumer and prospective client, it might surprise you to learn that the process of editing includes much more than reading your content and manipulating—or adding to—existing content. Any professional who is consulted to enhance your business--or personal aspects of life--must go through a discovery process to do their very best for you. Although that may take many forms, it is a necessary part of the process. And so it is with copyediting.

Based on my combination of skills including copywriting, copyediting and online marketing, I bring all of this to every project. How and Why Your Conscious Copywriter Effectively Captivates The Attention—and Heart—Of Your Customers

As a knowledgeable business owner, you already know the individual definitions of the words ‘conscious’ and ‘copywriter,’ but when combined into one term, ‘conscious copywriter,’ what is the definition?

Why are visceral skills important in the creation of your copy?

As part of the creative process, visceral skills (based on instinct rather than intellect) ensure effective development of the vibrational aspect of your copy, which is essential to making an authentic connection with your audience.

From personal experience, there are elements of the creative writing process that cannot be accomplished by expert training or years of real-world writing. These fall into the visceral category. They are the awareness and application of intuition. These inspirations rise to the surface and conscious copywriters know there is an inherent wisdom within, even though the insight may not make ‘sense’ using logic. They just appear.

Imagine your customers asking you to lower your prices because although they want (and need) what you have to offer, they say they cannot afford it. Instead of the onus being on them to grow their business to the point they can hire you and pay fair industry rates, it becomes your responsibility to say No when they ask for special favors to make your offerings accessible to them.

As a heart-based business owner, your desire to help others is probably high. However, it’s important to carefully consider the impact and ripple-effect of accommodating those who ask for reduced rates, extended terms, or other compromises from you.

Special accommodations often translate to reduced perceived value. If consumers are able to secure products or services at less than fair market value, studies show they value them less than if they’ve given something of value, in exchange for those products/services.

Believe me, I would love nothing better than to accommodate every business owner on the planet who can benefit from my services. And when our societal agreement changes from cash money to giving away services--knowing that when I need a specific service to grow my own business the person who possesses the expertise I need will give it to me at no cost--I will be the first to offer my copywriting, copyediting and consulting expertise to help my fellow entrepreneurs succeed in business.

In the mean time, I proudly operate and honor my profitable company serving those who truly understand the value of my expertise and are relieved to delegate to a pro. Years of learning and refining my craft make it an asset to any business owner who’s ready right now to take advantage of it. And this requires that funds are allocated for this purpose.

There’s a time and a place for boot-strapping. However, when hiring business advisors--whose contribution is vital to your continued success--that approach must be replaced with a solid plan to invest in the best, as often as possible. Your legal advisor, accountant, bookkeeper, Web developer, online marketer, mentor and your friendly copywriter/editor do what they do so you can enjoy the benefits of business goal achievement and long term rewards. As a provider, there may be circumstances in which you want to barter or create workable agreements that require more creativity than usual; that’s fine. You’ll know those situations when they arise. My best business advice? Scare yourself silly on a regular basis

There's no better season to talk about scaring yourself silly.

With Hallowe'en quickly approaching, common scary activities include ghost tours, the telling of ghost stories and frightening tales, and watching horror films. But, there's nothing more scary than scaring yourself silly.

The term itself is comical to me and makes actually doing it a little easier. It brings light-heartedness to something that can be so off-putting that we find ourselves paralyzed in mediocrity--existing, but never deeply contented; living within the illusion of safety, but never fully exploring our infinite possibilities.

The only way to play bigger and be a part of something bigger than yourself is by doing something that completely unnerves you; makes you sick to your stomach; makes you think you'd go to most any extreme to avoid doing the thing. Each of us has at least one thing that scares us silly; some many more.

Have you ever wondered how much energy is being silently and stealthily siphoned off by inaction? However, if you face your issue(s) head-on by taking an action step, it's incredible how much personal power remains within to multiply exponentially so you can accomplish even greater things.

The truth is: the subconscious voice of inaction doesn't go away, although it may quiet down temporarily. Don't be mistaken! In some way it will continually make itself known. It's not going anywhere until it's appeased; with an action toward its resolve.

Even though it might not seem or feel like it, your inner voice is actually providing an opportunity for you to shine! It's leaving clues that a belief is ready to be shattered and replaced by something much more empowering. Wouldn't you rather have that?

I will let you in on a secret, but lean in closer; I don't want everyone to know!

I had a BIG fear of public speaking.

And it wasn't just public speaking; teleseminars were the worst. Any time I knew my conversation was being recorded, I froze. All the free-flow that was so comfortable in every other conversation; all my hard-earned knowledge; all my insights; all my conversation skills; flew right out the window leaving me a bumbling mess. And it felt terrible because I knew there was importance in the message.

But, I just couldn't get beyond the belief that I wasn't a good public speaker. In spite of support and opportunities to get better, I held that belief for years until I was tired of being limited by something I didn't really know to be true; after all, it was just a belief! Maybe, just maybe, I had been wrong, but I wouldn't know until I took action.

I knew if I simply focused on getting better every time, that was my personal measure of success. My goal was not to be the world's best speaker. My goal was to move beyond paralysis of unfounded beliefs.

Here's another secret: You may not have made the correlation by reading my newsletter, but until a few months ago, I didn't offer teleclasses. You know why I started? Because it forced me to take an action. I knew if I was accountable to others, I would have to come through for them. I used the exercise to scare myself silly. It was a beautiful self-orchestration to play at becoming better.

When I lightened up and prepared a platform for me to practice, based on my terms, my confidence soared. Now I am unstoppable. But it wouldn't have happened without my initial decision to scare myself silly and take an action step; little by little, you know?

This is how I did it. I set up the first teleclass to practice sounding more natural using a script. The second one was set up to "wing it" using only bullet points. I aced both, based on my personal measure of success. And completely gone is the fear. I only aspired to be better than I was before the experiment and I accomplished that.

Another way to say scare yourself silly is: go out on a limb. Why is this so important? Because that's where the fruit is! This applies both literally and figuratively. Literally, nature provides fruit in abundance. It's right there within eyesight, but it might require effort to enjoy the bounty; climbing high and reaching far. Figuratively, we must go out on a limb to access life's fruit (abundance). Based on my observations, it's after we invest something of ourselves that we reap the most benefit.

Are you afraid of public speaking? Contact everyone you know and let them know you're available to speak (choose a comfortable topic based on your personal expertise). Then follow through, meaning: go do it.

Are you afraid to make sales calls? Get a list, sit down, and start dialing.

Are you afraid to hire a support team? Run the numbers, establish a budget and a plan for implementation, ask for referrals and start interviewing.

Whatever your scary thing, take some action toward it. Go out on a limb and scare yourself silly on a regular basis. Soon that becomes your norm and you wake up one day to realize you are playing bigger and participating in something amazing; it's called your life.

An inspiration from Buckminster Fuller and a message to every misfit on the planet

I had the privilege recently to attend an informal presentation by Jaime Snyder; grandson of Buckminster (Bucky) Fuller.

If you’re unfamiliar with Bucky Fuller, he was a true visionary: philosopher, designer, poet, architect, artist, engineer, entrepreneur, author, mathematician, teacher and inventor.

It was astounding to hear some of the more personal aspects of Bucky’s life and notice so many similarities to my own experience and those of my friends and colleagues; maybe even yours. Read on.

In his 30’s, already a proven “failure” at numerous pursuits (including flunking out of Harvard twice: first for spending all his money partying with a vaudeville troupe, and then, after having been readmitted, for his "irresponsibility and lack of interest"), bankrupt, jobless, living in public, low-income housing, and drinking frequently due to the death of his young daughter, he sat on the edge of Lake Michigan and seriously contemplated “ending it all.” He believed that his wife and second child would have better opportunities without him due to his failed attempts to succeed in life.

Then, he had another thought: If he did only things that truly inspired him instead of his former approach (which obviously wasn’t working), maybe the outcome would be different. At that moment he chose to embark on "an experiment, to find what a single individual [could] contribute to changing the world and benefiting all humanity."

Like many of us, Bucky was first driven by a focus on money. It’s a common experience based on systematic social conditioning. Inherently, there’s nothing wrong with that focus; it just wasn’t his priority. With the passage of time, however, in part, it led him to contemplate suicide.

He recognized that a focus on money—because it wasn’t a part of his personal agenda—and putting his attention on what others thought was important—instead of following his own bliss—wasn’t in alignment with making his greatest contribution. He could never achieve personal excellence within the confines of the existing model. As history eventually revealed, he would thrive outside convention. His lakeside inner guide was spot-on. (After all, life is a grand experiment; why not approach it as such?)

It doesn’t even occur to us to question the model. It doesn’t even occur to us that there are alternatives to conforming. It doesn’t even occur to us that to shine as brilliantly as possible, we might have to navigate our own way; meaning we follow no one and no thing. We might have to create a solitary path that paves the way for others.

By his own appraisal, Bucky was a “non-conforming misfit.” Does this sound familiar to you? If you’re an entrepreneur, it’s very likely you’re a non-conforming misfit, too.

So, what’s the point? What’s the big takeaway here?

1. Every misfit has been discouraged to the point of taking dramatic action.

Whether it’s suicide, or an abrupt or uncharacteristic decision about a move, a relationship, business, or your health, you know when you’ve had enough of what is. You simply cannot take any more. Your “sponge is full” and you cannot live one more minute within your current circumstances; you can’t, and you won’t.

Life has interesting ways of presenting enormous opportunity; it may even be packaged in despair. Quite effective, it finally gets our full attention, although there may have been signals of misalignment for years. When we’re done; fully saturated; fully convinced that we’ve tried everything; that’s the moment fresh possibilities surface to grab our focus and set us off in a new, inspired direction.

2. Every misfit has felt alone in defining and/or delivering her unique message.

You and life collaborated to create a moment of decision; this is one of your great life opportunities to shine. After the realization that there may be options you hadn’t previously explored, now what? As if you weren’t overwhelmed before! Hmph.

Now that you’ve determined your best options are based in following your own inner drummer, it’s likely you’ll spend your time discovering your passions (if you haven’t already), find more ways to nurture and be kind to yourself, send the inner critic on vacation, invest in some down-home soul searching, explore the many ways to enjoy what is, and simply be.

Inspirations come with allowing; not planning, strategizing and acting, as so many of us have been taught. When you’re wholly aligned with who you are and intimately knowledgeable of your unique gifts, the rest will naturally present itself in response to your alignment. The Way will be made known to you. It must; it’s a Universal Law.

3. Every misfit has felt overwhelmed at some point in figuring out the how of making his finest contribution to humanity.

When you follow no model, you are ever creating in-the-moment. You may have no idea if what you’re doing makes any sense. You may have no idea if your inspirations are a few or hundreds of years before their “time.” You may have no proven methods of implementation. Upon implementation, you may have no universally-agreed-on measure of “success.” At best, you may have no or few supporters. At worst, you could be persecuted or ostracized for acting on your convictions.

Every effort is based in inspiration. You may have no idea how—after the investment of precious resources of time, money, effort, passion, and drive—or if, all your efforts will eventually enrich humanity. After all, life’s a grand experiment!

In conclusion, misfit, this is my heartfelt message to you:

Misfit, you may never achieve personal excellence within the confines of the existing model. You probably weren’t meant to. Create your haven—and thrive—outside convention. Embark on an experiment to find out what a single individual (you!) can contribute to changing the world and benefiting all humanity. As a misfit, that’s most likely your calling.

Misfit, wear the term as a badge of honor, for it requires a tremendous amount of courage to be a leader; a visionary; a pioneer; a lightbearer; a path maker; an entrepreneur.

Misfit, regardless of how lost, lonely, or scared silly you might ever feel on this journey, you are never alone. There are misfits everywhere, lurking among the masses, trying to figure out their own ways to change the world and benefit humanity. Make it your mission to find them!

I find this a much better approach than nagging, complaining and being the voice of how someone else is wrong, inadequate, or inferior. Honestly, it's insufferable! What would be the reason to remain in such a situation if you were the one on the other end of this unkind and unloving behavior? And why would you do that to someone you claim to love? Yet, it's so prominent. Fortunately, the power to change today is within you!

Hey, give me back my wrinkle!

These were my words to the photographer who touched-up my recent business headshots. She did a beautiful job editing out my wrinkle and had no idea that with a few strokes of her mouse, she was erasing something I value. Assuming I would want it removed, I was adamant about having her start over again, making any other changes she wanted, but leaving my adored wrinkle.

You see, that wrinkle represents something... something important: It represents the 45 years I have invested in understanding who I am and how to make a positive contribution to this planet, and leave her inhabitants better for my being here. I EARNED that wrinkle!

With so much emphasis in our society on youth and flawless, external beauty, I stand for something else: a more graceful, peaceful journey to embrace and adore the many indicators of aging. I may be bald, but I have gray hair. My skin is thinner. Hair is sprouting in the strangest places and is sparse in others. And what happened to my upper arms? My Pilates teacher says it's changing hormones. Whatever the explanation, it's kinda weird.

Committed to being an excellent steward of my precious life resources, it just makes sense to invest my time, money and effort in celebrating the work-in-progress that is I. Honestly, even the thought of how much energy it would require to struggle and fight the process of maturing leaves me yearning for a nap. Yes, there are changes and adjustments, but looking back, no stage of life was free of the necessity to be flexible, so why should this one be any different? Life is, after all, in perpetual motion. Change is inevitable and the more willingly I bask in the truth of what is, the more free I am to be the most glorious and free version of myself.

Besides, removing the inevitable indicators of our age with technology changes nothing. As time goes by, it only reflects our inability to embrace what's real and true, and prevents us from loving what is so lovely about ourselves when we love ourselves without condition. When you think about it, can you expect others to love you when you don't?

I am leaving a legacy and sometimes that is represented in the most peculiar ways. For me, it's reflected by my forehead wrinkle. So, lady, give me back my wrinkle!

Repurpose your content: a surefire way to make delivering fresh content more manageable and save your sanity in the process

Developing and delivering regular content can be daunting simply because of the sheer volume required; original content for newsletters, updates, blogs, article marketing, FaceBook, Twitter.... On and on it goes, where it stops, nobody knows.

I learned a long time ago that if I was going to do a superior job as an online marketer, I had to implement a system. There was no way humanly possible that I could create original content for every application. So, I execute this strategy every week and it has worked beautifully for several years now. I share it with you in hopes it can lighten your load and free up some time and energy for other business-development tasks:

Write one or two original articles for the weekly newsletter.
Write one or two very short personal quotations, quicktips or life insights.
After the newsletter goes out on Mondays, all this content is repurposed.
Article(s) is/are submitted to my ezinearticles.com account (to feed my ongoing article marketing campaign).
Article(s) is/are queued to post on my blog approximately 2-3 days apart (this keeps the blog content fresh).
5 or so segments of less than 140 characters are clipped from the articles and insights as stand-alone posts for social networking sites (Twitter+Facebook+Indie Beauty).
As I see posts, articles and rich content throughout the week from multiple outside sources, these inspire content ideas for the next newsletter.
The cycle begins again.

If you think you have to choose between writing to readers or scanners, the good news is: there's an easy to way reach both at the same time!

Go ahead and write your full content (your readers will LOVE this!). Then, to capture the attention of scanners, embolden prominent segments so they benefit from the value of your message but don't have to read every word.

Your content can then be enjoyed by everyone; readers and scanners.

Emphasizing Price vs. Value: Two Easy Tips to Make Your Desired Impression

Pricing your products or services can be tricky. From calculating the cost of ingredients or components, to factoring in resources like electricity, natural gas, time and expertise, pricing is a common area of stumpification for business owners. (Okay, that's not really a word, but it still works!)

Then there's the marketing aspect. When listing dollar figures, how do you leverage your marketing content so it maximizes results? And what about value? How do you emphasize that?

Fortunately, there are only two things to remember when putting your pricing in writing:

If you want to deemphasize the price/cost (and decrease the perception of cost) exclude .00. Here are several examples:
- The investment for this 14-day writing retreat is $1,495.
- Until the end of this month, pricing for all necklaces is $49.
Any time you list prices that your customers pay you for your products or services, avoid cent placeholders. This not only ensures you have clean copy, but the consumer perceives a cost that seems less because of the visual simplicity. Want to this this in action?

Of these two options, which visually seems like less of a cost/price/investment?

$2,998 or $2,998.00

Yes, one little dot and two zeroes can make that much difference.
Conversely, if you want to emphasize the price/cost (and increase the perception of value) include .00. Here are several examples:
- 36-page workbook (value $19.00)
- I give you my 100% "no questions asked" satisfaction guarantee on your tuition, plus $750.00 in documented travel expenses.
Any time you list prices that represent the value of what you offer your customers, always include cent placeholders. That way, it feels like "more."

With a quick visual scan, copy on a page should be clean. That means there's plenty of white space, visual variety in colors and content, and natural flow. Extra-seemingly unnecessary-digits can make content look busy. However, when you understand the rationale for including .00, the tradeoff is worthwhile; it's more busy, but it's also more effective to convey value.

One dot. Two little cent placeholders. Use them to your greatest advantage by knowing when--and when not--to include them in your savvy marketing materials.

As an astute observer of life, you have probably noticed an ever-widening gap between traditional business formulas and what spiritual, heart-based and conscious consumers want and need. Traditional marketing and sales campaigns simply aren't working. That's because people are starving for what is real; what is true; what speaks to their souls; what truly has value.

We are being called to serve, using our businesses as catalyst for this grand shift. There's some something drawing us forward into the unknown to allow us to experience and share a greater fullness and depth. It responds to our individual intents and desires to serve humankind with our unique gifts. It is real, it is happening right in front of us and yet, it seems as conscious business owners, we don't quite know what to do with that information.

We know that anything created using the past as a foundation can only create more of the same. Business and life approaches that simply recycle the old and put it into new packaging lack vibrance, vitality and don't capture the wisdom of the information, products and services that need to be in the world right in this very moment. As savvy entrepreneurs, we know there's so much more to discover by sitting on the edge of innovation; frankly, it's our favorite vantage-point!

So, let's get on it... but how? How do we apply what we intuit the market wants based on something that doesn't yet exist? Why, we create it, of course; in this very moment by drawing from the guidance of the future in which it does already exist in the physical.

How you create in the present from your future:

Engage the wisdom of 'your future self' to guide you

Admittedly, this idea is foreign to most of us. We don't even think about our future selves and yet this entity is very real and accessible to guide us. Think about it: isn't the person you are now real? Were you any less real 10 years ago because the current you hadn't evolved yet? What was is real. What is is real. What will be is real. Was, Is, and will be can coexist simultaneously in this moment.

If the future is a result of the inspiration of this moment and the action steps you take right now (which it is), then the future already is. If it already is, it is a resource to tap. Why not engage the future you to navigate the present? And how do you do this? With sincere intent, simply ask, with your thoughts, to be guided by the future you.
Without attachment, in your mind, continually pose this question: How will I bring this new ___________ onto the physical plane?

It's simply a pondering; nothing you need to figure out, intellectualize or answer. It's just a question; a silly, little question with no agenda or attachment to it. However, you will be amazed at that answers that begin to appear--seemingly out of nowhere--in response to your query. Merely posing the question opens worlds of solutions; the magical key is zero attachment.

How is this creating from your future? Because it is based on the premise in #1 above. Engaging the energy of what already is (full manifestation of your vision, existing in the present in an energetic form and the future in a physical form), guides you in the current moment to take the appropriate steps and eventually actualize in the physical world.

Keep in mind: When the answers are being handed to you by the Universe, there's nothing necessarily to do about them right now. Let them brew until you're clear on the next inspired action step(s).
Be in a state of wonder: I wonder how this new _____________ will come to fruition?

This is another one of those innocuous little exercises that delivers a power-packed punch in terms of the flood of information that comes to you. Wonder, but be ready for results! The magic of these simple tools is a simply a genuine wondering. Without an iron-grip on the outcome, your mind can simply wonder and wander, planting an unanswered question in the Universe. Immediately, forces are at work to orchestrate events (via matching vibration) and deliver the 'answers' of how. It's your job then to take inspired action.

Conscious business owners are at the helm of innovating and implementing the leading-edge principles of the new age. It's never been a better time to make your unique contribution to the world by allowing your future to inspire you, draw you to it and work in active collaboration with the Universe until you manifest your perfect vision of service.

Life’s Experiences Go Deeper Than The Surface: What An Overweight Personal Trainer Taught Me Today

On my daily walk/run today, I noticed an overweight personal trainer. She was teaching a group of moms with strollers how to exercise with stretch resistance bands. I wondered what each of them thought the first time they saw her. Could it have been something like What can *she* teach me about physical wellness, strengthening, toning, etc.? She doesn’t even have a masterful grasp on it herself!

And yet, this trainer obviously has some expertise because this isn’t the first time I’ve seen her with what I assume are clients. As the babies watch their Mommas stretch, grunt and bend, laughing often and enjoying the camaraderie, the Moms are focused on following the instructions from their trainer. They know there’s more to this experience—and their trainer—than how it appears. There’s more; so much more.

I’ve started to say, “It’s never the thing.”

What I mean is: regardless of the situations in which you find yourself, it’s never about what you initially think it’s about. It’s about something much bigger than the current circumstance. It’s about attracting yet another experience so you can exercise the muscle of self-mastery.

For those women, this experience may be about setting aside prejudices, or taking the most positive benefit from everyone who crosses their path. It may even be about being a teacher themselves… of compassion and acceptance. And that may be the biggest gift that trainer receives all week.

No matter what you see in front of you, consider that there’s so much more going on if you’ll take even a moment to look and simply wonder about that possibility. Approach every circumstance by posing this question: If this isn’t what it seems, what IS it… what IS it about?

With your genuine curiosity, you have established an invisible yet powerful connection to duplicate the process again and again! Essentially, you are inviting it to guide you to refining this skill through more opportunities to practice. Just like practicing anything, the more you do it, the easier it is and the better you become. With practice, this can become your first-nature. This insider knowledge can be yours instantaneously.

The better you are at this technique, the quicker you will know in any situation what’s really going on and can immediately attune yourself to bringing in the highest benefit for all parties. Whether it’s saying something, taking an action or powerfully focusing your thoughts, you are a catalyst for change in-the-moment; where and when it’s needed most.

Bald-by-choice isn't for every woman. But then again, what is? One of the most fun aspects of life is the freedom to choose what’s best for us as individuals. Who knows better for ourselves than we do, right?

On a regular basis, as I’m conducting the business of my life, women smile at me and make some gesture or comment about my near-hairless head. They often say, “I’d love to do that, but I don’t have the courage.”

And I say, “Sure you do. You just don’t know it yet.” And with a few words, a stealthy but powerful seed-of-thought has been planted, to burst into bloom at some perfectly-orchestrated moment in the future.

Shaving my head wasn’t an act of courage. Rosa Parks had courage. Eleanor Roosevelt had courage. Amelia Earhart had courage. Lucia Rene has courage. I have a bald head. But it means something to me and that’s all that matters.

It’s been so long since I had hair that bald is now my norm. However, in the moments when I stop to think about what it means to me now, it serves as a reminder of the importance of doing what is right for each of us, regardless of social convention or what others think. It’s your life. Live it!

Within your body and your being, you must be at peace to make your greatest contribution.

Free yourself from the imposing beliefs of others on your life, with action. Do what makes the most sense to you. Maybe it’s shaving your head. Maybe it’s saying, ‘No.’ Maybe it’s obliterating a limiting belief. Maybe it’s creating more ‘you’ time. Maybe it’s responding, ‘Yes,’ to the beckoning voice of your soul.

Whatever the prompting, propel your transformation with action.

The 'Aligned Female' Shape-Shifts Business Based on Innate Feminine Gifts

Entrepreneurship is shifting dramatically and the aligned female influence cannot be ignored. The feminine:

There is no doubt—with the shifting business paradigm in full swing—women have made a powerful impression and will continue to do so. Our innate gifts as birthers of new ideology will change the face of entrepreneurship so much that soon the old façade won’t be recognizable. It’s the dawning of a new age and we’re the luminaries.

Counter-habitual Magic

I granted myself permission to take a personal hiatus for the past few months. My soul needed a break from outputting my creativity. Clearly it was time to go within.

During this time, I excavated more of my authentic myself. I recognized patterns that no longer serve me and dismantled the beliefs that kept me confined to old habits; the ones that prevented me from devouring life at the rapid pace that I desire.

As is true for many life embarkations, I had no idea what was ahead, but I was ready and willing to begin the journey. I promised to act on all inspirations.

It all began with my awareness of increasing physical and mental exhaustion. I kept saying my soul and body were so tired, but succinctly this is the underlying basis:

Unbeknownst to my conscious awareness, at some point very early in life, I learned (and assimilated the belief in my being) that achieving was the result of hard work. So, work hard I did!

However, I looked at my results and they didn't equate to the focused energy and effort I expended. I looked at this from every possible angle and realized that my assessment of the results didn't mean I was necessarily unhappy or dissatisfied; that would be an over-simplification. It felt much more that something was just misaligned.

There had to be another way, or I would destroy my well-being trying to be of service to this planet. I KNEW there was something I could experience differently, but what? how? Was I not doing something right? Was I doing something wrong?

Although that's a natural wondering, it felt right to allow these thoughts to move past me without further consideration. I don't function from a perspective of right and wrong; it just doesn't resonate for me.

So, on an impulse--and in the spirit of fun exploration--I decided to try something new: I began doing everything the exact opposite of my usual habits.

If my habit was to work at specific days or times, I went to the beach. If my habit was to focus on doing something a specific way for higher productivity, I did it in a way that was more fun. If my habit was to be unkind to myself in my thoughts, I was sweet and patient and kind to myself. If my habit was to mentally link my hard work with results, I consciously reminded myself of the natural ease-of-life and that I had already decided life was full of ease. I raised my awareness of every thought. My full attention was on the tiniest details that showed up. When I felt anything other than aligned and on and happy, I immediately switched my thinking, my words or my actions to something that felt better.

Two months later, you want to know the results of this fun adventure?

Our minds are powerful. And the ability to influence others with strategic copy is something to take seriously. It's also a great responsibility.

As a conscious or spirit-based business owner, the impact on you of using manipulative language in your marketing copy can run the full spectrum from mildly uncomfortable to physically nauseating.

One of my clients recently shared a story: in an effort to write more effective marketing content, she immersed herself in the tips, tactics and techniques of the most acclaimed copywriters alive today. She said some of it literally upset her stomach. The recommended tactics for increasing sales didn't resonate with her and she knew they wouldn't resonate with her audience either.

She's wise; she recognizes there's something that won't work for her readers, but what does she do about it?

It's a very real circumstance; something to be reconciled. You cannot escape it. You must somehow bridge the gap between hardsell sales copy and light, fluffy, esoteric language. But what?

Ask any mainstream copywriter and they can tell you the 3 steps to writing copy that kills (aka converts to dramatic sales numbers and dollars), or the single-most read aspect of any sales letter, or how to inject subliminal messages into copy so readers do one thing: take action.

Ask them about esoteric sales language and they would probably say it has no place in the arsenal of strategies of the greatest online marketers or copywriters; that it is an embarrassment and worse, it is not even effective.

that when you remember it,
and pull it out,
even in the form of a thought,
it makes you smile,
tickles your heart,

After implementing these discoveries, achievement is much more likely than jumping in impulsively and praying or hoping for success. As you well know, hope is not a plan! Establish a succinct statement of your goal(s) and your motivation. Write this one-sentence statement on a notepad or 3x5 card as a reminder of why you're doing what you're doing. Complete a target market analysis. It is CRUCIAL to know your target market. Without this information, you are writing the most generic, white-bread, bland, one-size-fits-all, boring, bedtime story content that will put your audience to sleep! You MUST know and speak the language of your unique target market. If not, opportunities to truly connect pass you by every day. Yeah, it's THAT important! How can knowing your target market help you accomplish any business goal? It brings a laser focus of the needs of that market to all your activities. The more you understand them, what motivates them, what drives them to actually purchase products or services, the more you can cater your offerings to them and capture their interest. Helping other people reach their own goals--by giving them what they want, like and need--pushes you closer to you reaching yours.
Assess your existing skill set to accomplish your current goal. Simply, there are tasks that you love to do, take very little time and refuel you in the process. Yes, complete these action items yourself. Everything else must be delegated to others. If you try to do everything yourself, you will be drained of your precious time and energetic resources. It's smart to delegate because it gets you in the habit of hiring others to do what they do best in assisting you to accomplish your goals. Collaboration is the most powerful and effective business model.
Honestly assess your support system, both personal and professional. The truth is, your spouse or friends may not be the best supporters for goal achievement. Don't take it personally! It's not about you. People cannot give you what they don't have the capacity to give. The reasons don't matter, so don't invest time trying to figure out why. It will never matter, and the exploration will most likely take you way off-course; a distraction from your vision. The most successful people attain their success by having and depending on a strong support system. If you don't already have one, you must create your own network-of-support. Create both personal and professional support networks so you get your business and emotional needs met as you delve into the process of bringing your next goal to fruition.
Get your head "in the game." A committed, whole-life effort is required to consistently accomplish your goals. Your mind and heart must be fully wrapped around your vision so nothing deters you from achievement. Getting your head in the game is initially about making a private, often silent, pact with yourself that nothing will take you off-course until you have realized your intended goal. We do this in different ways, but prayer, mantras, visioning, and exploring the spiritual aspects of the process can assist you in bringing your whole, full intention to the game of goal manifestation. And yes, it can be as fun as a game!
Develop a detailed mission statement. This is an extended version of tip #1. Writing a mission statement is a simple way of capturing the details of your goal. However, the idea is often overlooked as being too simple to be effective. If this is your sentiment, reconsider. Achieving even our wildest dreams doesn't have to be hard. We just have to understand that even the simplest efforts to identify what we really want to experience, putting it in writing, and working toward it is enough to bring manifestation into our physical reality. Detailed mission statements include:

Work schedule - What is the schedule you're committing to? 5 hours per week? 2 hours per day?
Time commitment - What are the time commitments you will adhere to that work best for you? Before the kids awake? From 10 AM - Noon Monday-Friday?
Work environment - Where will you complete the tasks required to meet this goal? Is it clean? Is it orderly? Does it facilitate maximum creativity?
Recovery plan - What is your plan should you begin to feel overwhelmed, frustrated or discouraged? What happens when you have lost your momentum? Is there a go-to person who can assist?
Built-in breaks - What is your specific plan for stepping away from tasking to give yourself the necessary mental breaks so when you work, it's the most efficient and effective? What is the most relaxing and enjoyable thing you do for yourself? Movement? Solitude? Being in nature?
Target deadline - What is a reasonable, yet challenging completion date? On what is this based, and how exactly is it both reasonable and challenging?

There's no easy path to accomplishment. No set of six tips will eliminate the necessity for inspired, focused effort. However, clear goals, reasons for attaining those goals and a few other simple techniques relating to pre-planning will certainly pave the way, making the journey easier.

That On Which We Focus, Manifests

even if you're just explaining to a friendly ear,

Yet, always you can choose to focus on what's good.

It's common to want to share all of life's experiences with those we love; including the "downs." The simple question, "How are you?" by a close friend often opens a pandora's box of the details of what's going on in our lives. Rarely do we stop and wonder about the impact of our words on our future experience.

So, how do we remain authentic AND honor what's actually happening, AND pave the way for manifesting what we really want if it's different than what we are living right now?

As best we can, with our words, thought and actions we must shift our focus to the positive aspects of what's happening in our lives.

Positive thinking is getting a bad rap recently with the launch of a new book. To be sure, I'm not advocating the manufacture of some artificial pasted-on smiley face when we are truly hurting. What I am saying is that if we take just a moment to reframe our responses, we can see something beneficial in what is happening right now. And THAT'S what's worth focusing on and sharing with others.

Eradicate Incessant Mind-chatter

Today I was asked by a consulting client how to silence mind-chatter. The process below is overly-simplified, but these are the 3 steps I shared to effectively shush that voice, so you can focus and be at peace:

Take an authoritative position--Give yourself permission to silence that invasive voice. No one ever told us that we can direct our inner critic. We can and we must if we are to be the masters of our minds.

Take action--As if it resided outside of your head, tell your voice to go sit in a corner or assign it a task, physically distanced from you. Feel free to have fun with this; set a time limit or other specification, e.g. "For 10 minutes" or "Until you can come back and be quiet."

Consciously choose another thought--Instead of being the servant of your inner voice, turn the tables and while your critic is otherwise occupied, choose a pleasant thought that feels better and allows you to focus.

The more awareness you create around this dynamic, and take assertive action every time it happens, the less interested your mind will be in bothering you. After some time has passed, you realize you have mastered--or at least have begun to master--your own inner voice because after awhile it stops tormenting and distracting you. Just like a child in the throes of a tantrum, it stops because it no longer gets the reaction it's looking for. And, voila; success!

Y: The Question and The Funnel

The Question

We often ask ourselves “Why?” Why this? Why that? Why now? Why me?

These wonderings usually involve extreme impact of some kind:

Why did I lose my job?
Why did my child get sick?
Why didn’t I foresee losing my retirement money in the stock market?
Why was the timing of the auto accident so soon after the death of my father?
Why does my longtime acquaintance seem disinterested in continuing our friendship?
Why have there been a string of circumstances that have evaporated the solid foundation of my life?
Why has my business so completely changed that I have no reliable monthly income?

Although it’s common to wonder about the whys of life, this exploration is the ultimate distraction. In the end, if you had the answer to the question, would it matter? Does knowing change anything? Maybe yes, maybe no.

Why is it a distraction? Because it only prolongs the inevitable: taking the next step toward regaining your soulful stability; your groundedness; the conscious creation of that which positions you securely in your personal power.

I submit that the only why question worthy of your attention is: Why not?

That leads me to…

The Funnel

If you go outside, turn your face toward the heavens and lift your arms, your body forms a Y.

This is the ultimate representation of surrender, willingness, openness or welcoming, depending on your mindset and heartset.

Do you realize that this is also the shape of a funnel? From this position, the Universe can pour its very essence directly into you: all that is goodness, abundance, opportunity, joy, etc. Amassing in the ether and narrowing into a direct stream, if you are open and allow this influx directly from Source, you can be transformed.

When you look at the vastness of the sky, and allow yourself to be engulfed, you are too transfixed by the magnitude to wonder why this? or why that? You don’t have answers to the questions of why me? or why now?, but you don’t need them. When you really think about it, all of that is irrelevant in the grand scope of all that is. Besides, you may never know anyway, so why even pose the question? Why invest the time and energy in something that simply is? Instead, allow whatever isas-is. to be okay

The next time your mind naturally goes to the question of why?, consciously shift it to why not?:

Why not embrace what is?
Why not allow myself to surrender to my current circumstances?
Why not operate from a position of knowing that all is well, regardless of external situations?
Why not pursue my biggest dreams?
Why not give myself the gift of all that is accessible?
Why not be grateful for the events in my life, especially when I don’t understand why?
Why not try something new?
Why not completely change my perspective to view life as a process?
Why not admit I don’t know everything?
Why not treat myself with the kindness I gladly give to others?

Why not, indeed!

Fearful, Forceful or Fierceful: Which Is Your Approach To Life and Why Does It Matter?

Admittedly, fierceful isn't a word, but for the integrity of the headline, it stays. Word or no word, it doesn't change the message of this exploration.

Definition of Fearful: Feeling fear, dread, apprehension, anxiety or concern
Definition of Forceful: Acting or driven with force
Definition of Fierce(ful): Extremely intense or ardent

If you're fearful, there is something--usually something BIG--underlying that feeling. Maybe it's conscious, maybe it's subconscious, but either way your actions are steeped in this overpowering and often paralyzing feeling, often to the point that you are incapable of making wise choices. Fear only begets more fear. It festers. It grows. And feeding the monster of fear with your words, thoughts and actions only makes you feel worse. If you're a worrier, you know exactly what it's like. Day in, day out, it is your constant companion and yet you may have an inkling that because of the grief it causes, it's no way to run your business or your life.

If you're forceful, you are constantly pushing people, events and circumstances, to respond to your sheer will that they comply with your vision. You cannot be bothered with how people perceive you or the impact on them of your words, thoughts and actions. After all, you have a vision and it is a driving force! You feel absolutely justified in your approach, regardless of external signs that something is amiss. Sometimes, you and your agenda are literally a force to be reckoned with, making even minor issues, very big ones. You are unapproachable. Life lacks anything resembling effortless flow. You are in charge and it's up to you to make everything work... at the greatest expense imaginable: your peace-of-mind and of those around you. You shoulder the weight of the world and the cracks in the fortress are beginning to split wide open. At it's core, force is fear. It's an attempt to control, driven by the need for safety or security, which never actually manifests peace or flow, but only creates more of the same: fear.

Let's move beyond the many limitations of fearful and forceful living to a whole-life approach based in healthy, powerful resolve: fierceful living.

Using the brief definition above of fierce, notice the word ardent. The definition of ardent includes words like intense feeling, passionate, fervent, intensely devoted, eager, zealous, burning, fiery and hot.

All these words or terms are powerful and positive. They motivate and inspire. They propel and energize. They excite and prompt. They contain the juice that positively moves us from where we are to where we'd rather be.

Neither fear nor force motivates, inspires, propels, energizes, excites or drives. Fear and force are old patterns based in pain. They are our deeply ingrained habits, developed long ago as coping mechanisms. And the truth is they no longer serve us.

So, it's time to let them go. It's the perfect time to step into our fierceness-of-being. It's time to release debilitating habits and create ourselves anew.

What is fierceful living?

In its wisdom, it recognizes injustice in its many forms and stands up to say, "No more," regardless of the consequences.

It is courage, to the core, no matter how things actually feel inside.

It sets personal agendas aside and puts people first, always.

It has an unshakable and undeniable clarity guiding its every strategic move.

It assumes full responsibility for all outcomes.

It continually creates room for more fullness, variety, color, grandness and opportunity.

It stands for something, instead of nothing.

You cannot create from fear or force, for they do not contain the elements to deliver such an outcome. With either, you can only create more of the same.

Be fierce. Be bold. Be you. Now is the time.

What Is "Copyediting" and What Is The Process From a Professional Editor's Perspective?

Surprisingly, the word copyediting is an industry-specific term. If you don't function within this community or have some exposure to it, the word may be simply unfamiliar, or even mysterious, but it's easy enough to demystify.

To answer the question, let's start with a reference from the Chicago Manual of Style. It says copyediting involves both mechanical editing and substantive editing:

"Mechanical copyediting requires a close reading of the manuscript with an eye to such matters as consistency of capitalization, spelling, and hyphenation; agreement of verbs and subjects; punctuation; beginning and ending quotation marks and parentheses; numbers given in numerals or spelled out; and many similar details of style.

Substantive copyediting involves rewriting, reorganizing, or suggesting other ways to present material."

Mechanical copyediting is more of a science because most rules of grammar are absolute. In contrast, substantive copyediting is more of an art based on innate talent, training or a combination of both. A talented copyeditor effortlessly and simultaneously performs both types, unless specifically requested to do otherwise.

So you can see how copyediting actually works behind-the-scenes, below is the step-by-step process, which might be modified from editor to editor based on individual style preferences.

After a thorough review of the content for the degree of copyediting required (light vs. heavy) and a signed Agreement has been received, as well as a project deposit, the copyediting process officially begins. The step-by-step process contains:

a full review of the content with no changes. This simply allows a broad understanding of the materials.

a second full review with a focus on flow, readability and structure

a third full review with an eye for grammar, spelling and punctuation details

a fourth and final review of a printed copy of the contents. It is amazing how many "catches" one finds in this final stage of the process. Seeing words on paper vs. a computer monitor ensures proof-perfect copy.

In the interest of time (don't we all want it now?) potential clients usually want an immediate answer, but you know it's not that simple. And it's best to remain true to the process that works best for you so, in the end, the information you provide is accurate and thorough. To do that, you want to find out more about them, their offerings, their target market and their short- and long-term visions for the business.

"I own two companies with a partner. How can we utilize your services?"

It's a great question; and one that deserves your full attention. Respond immediately with an email to acknowledge receipt and invite them to set up a telephone or video appointment to discuss their specific requirements. Here's an example:

"At XYZ Company we are committed to customized solutions for each client. One-size-fits-all just doesn't work: there are too many variables. We know your time and efforts are valuable and that's precisely why we don't want to waste them. You see, if we don't understand your business, we may not be fully maximizing our contribution to your success. During our comprehensive and complimentary 30-minute consult, we discover how we can best serve you. We want you to experience excellence. Follow this link to our online calendar and set up your appointment today."

Email is limited in its ability to fully communicate either their needs or your ability to meet those needs. During the fact-finding mission (the call), you are able to discern much more than you can by simply submitting your standard price sheet or a link to your prices page. After all, you are building a relationship. That doesn't happen in one email interaction or even one telephone call, but you're much closer to really understanding how your services can benefit them after speaking directly. A personal appointment gives both participants a chance to connect on many other levels.

When you are in a service business, there are no homogenous answers to what you can provide. Fundamentally, what you can provide is based on client requirements. Services can be customized in so many ways and that's where an open dialogue is incredibly helpful.

You take pride in flexibility. You have worked hard to offer value-based services. You owe it to yourself and your potential customers to construct a customized solution and effectively maximize your contribution to their success.

An initial 30-minute consultation saves much time, effort and aggravation in the future. You understand exactly what they need and they know you understand their business. You can provide specs based on that clear understanding. And what better way to begin establishing your connection than to be crystalline-clear from the very beginning. Should they hire you, with mutual understanding, the outcome can only be superior.

I read this article and was reminded of how much we reveal about ourselves in our writing, if readers are truly paying attention. My OMG moments within this article are indicated in bold.

Author's point #1 was omitted intentionally. It's not nearly as juicy as the following four points.

Author's point #2: "Love your business more than your family. Put business first. Always! If you're not fully focused--if family, friends, community and church fill up your busy weekly schedule--you are probably failing to deliver real profits for your company. Your cell phone is for taking orders from clients, not storing grocery lists. Weekends are for work. Pray at your desk if you must. Your business is not a part-time job. Be there or be broke!"

Author's point #3: "The best family business has one member. Face it, blood and business don't mix. Profits will always be better when you're not keeping an extra sibling, spouse, child or in-law on the payroll. More than 60 percent of the small businesses we work with are family-owned, and that's where most of their problems start. Fire 'em! Cancel your kid's membership to the lucky sperm club. Keep your family squabbles at home, even if you have to pay relatives not to be there. Then change the locks on the office door. You'll save money in the end."

Author's point #4: "Don't treat sales like your mother-in-law. Don't view sales as an unwanted guest. Focusing on sales is the easiest way to grow your business in good times and sustain profits in bad. Get out from behind your desk and shill. Take names. Build a customer database. Breathe down the necks of your sales team. Go out on sales calls. Foster your own relationship with top customers. The era of easy sales may be over, but there's plenty you can and should be doing. Stop being fat, dumb and happy."

And finally, the author's point #5 (and it's a doozy!): "Give up golf, retreats, off-sites and trade shows. Golf is the biggest waste of time. Trade shows and retreats are just an excuse to goof off and schmooze on the boss's dime. Ban any activities that take you away from the office or a sales call. Business owners kid themselves that hitting the fairway is an opportunity to network, but they're wasting thousands in country club dues and missing important phone calls that could lead to more sales. Eliminate these distractions from your life. Let the competition play golf while you steal their customers."

Can I just say a big, "WOW"?

There are so many layers here, but to make this succinct, here's my commentary:

In direct conflict with the author's sentiments, succeeding in business often involves establishing a vital support system including family, friends, social engagements and FUN!

I do agree with the last sentence of the article: "Commit to doing whatever it takes to make your business a success, and everything else will take care of itself." Our ways of accomplishing this task are obviously vastly different, but as the headline above says, "Empowerment comes In ALL colors."

Bargain vs. Value: Are You Sabotaging Your Business?

Honestly, who doesn't LOVE a bargain? 50% off tags make our eyes boggle and an arduous quest for the perfect _______ is forgotten when, at some unexpected moment, we find our treasure at a deep discount. Ah, in those moments, all seems right with the world.

The word "bargain" relates to the price of something; specifically a low price.

What about "value"? And what about a distinction between the two? Are these words significant in the application to business services we delegate to freelancers?

Bargain. Value. Hmmmm.

Lord Byron had a few thoughts on the subject of bargains:

"A bargain is in its very essence a hostile transaction. Do not all men try to
abate the price of all they buy? I contend that a bargain even between brethren is a
declaration of war."

It sounds like Lord Byron spoke from experience. Why else would he be so impassioned? "Hostile transaction. Declaration of war." Those are strong words.

When hiring pros to make their valuable contribution to the success of our businesses, rarely do we look for a bargain. We want many things, but a bargain is not one of them. We want quality, we want integrity, we want dependability and we want all that at a price that has value to us: the price is high enough so we know we're engaging the services of a skilled professional, but low enough so we can realistically work it into our business budget.

Getting a bargain may mean we compromise value and quality in the process of building our businesses. And how can that ever serve our vision and goals?

confine bargain hunting
to actual goods and
seek value
when hunting for services

It's a clean distinction and one that fits into big business plans for growth, efficiency, simplicity and continued forward momentum.

So, what's the most effective method to getting value when hiring freelancers?

Ask for referrals from your colleagues and friends.
Compare services offered AND pricing based on your needs.
Contact references.
Establish clear contractual parameters.
Start with a small project.
Remain actively involved with open and ongoing communication.
At the conclusion of the first job, conduct a brief assessment to determine if a second assignment is warranted.

For the most part, pros who are compensated fairly do work comparable to their compensation. A bargain price often means bargain deliverables resulting in lost time, effort and the need to start from "square one." After a bargain-based experience, many entrepreneurs start over with an important lesson learned and a keen eye for getting value, instead of a bargain.

Bargains will cost you in the long-run. Learn from others and shorten your learning curve in business. There are plenty of other lessons to learn on your own. This doesn't
have to be one of them.

Bargains are good. Services are valuable.

Recently I received an email ad containing the following marketing copy for a new beauty product (bold emphasis is mine, FYI):

"Most of the women I know get a big thrill when somebody pegs their age as much younger than it truly is. A single 5-year deduction in age can put a smile on their face for days. After all, who doesn't like to find themselves on the receiving end of a compliment like that?

Even I get a kick out of the times I'm told I look younger than my years. It's simple human nature. We feel young, we think young, we act young... and we want to LOOK young, for as long as possible."

As an copywriting insider, I understand the tactics of writing compelling copy to effectively influence consumers to hit the 'buy' button. That's the whole point of copy that sells. But there's more between the lines of this copy... much more. The ad prompted me to wonder:

Are women really this fragile?
Are we so dependent on compliments that others have the power to "make us or break us" with their words?
Is it really human nature to be so unhappy with the natural progression of life?
Do we only feel young when we look the part according to a limited, societal interpretation of beauty? Don't we feel young when we eat well, exercise and nurture our souls?
As women, is looking young the extent of our contribute to life?

I understand that the sheer quantity of societal messages to look younger is a weight beyond the ability of many women to bear without caving, but stop for just one moment. Breathe. Close your eyes. Ask yourself if the statements/assumptions in the ad are true for you.

The journey to your own truth begins with posing one question to yourself that gets you thinking, and talking, and liking yourself as-is. Purchasing decisions based on disliking any aspect of yourself will never make you feel young.

With the holidays quickly approaching, I am inundated with holiday gift guides. No doubt you are as well.

The emphasis on purchasing consumer goods as a means to show appreciation or honor connection is a peculiar notion to me. I don’t ‘get’ it. I purchase no gifts; not because I stand on any principle, but because what I have to give is something more valuable than anything I have ever seen offered for sale.

My present to others is my presence, whether or not it’s the holidays. That is the greatest gift I can give. Full presentness is precious. It is rare. And it is something only I can give to those in my life circle.

I understand why people buy gifts. It’s easy. Digging deep, listening attentively, setting aside time to really connect, allowing someone to share their life and inner thoughts, making a memory, and being nowhere but in the moment is a treasure, a true gift with merit and meaning.

Our lives are so frantic that we often miss the many moments of life that bring the greatest satisfaction; the moment of now, here, connecting, time suspended until the experience has served its full purpose.

While it's true our outer circumstances don't change the moment our words, thoughts and actions change, the energetic shift is immediate. There is an instant resonance in the ether, with manifestation on the physical plane soon to follow.

The Feminine Divine ~ How It Shows Up In Business

Entrepreneurship is shifting dramatically and the aligned female influence cannot be ignored. The feminine:

brings a sense of community to business

is cooperative because we know that is the road to thriving

achieves results by nurturing others

wants all members of our tribe to succeed

celebrates milestones and goal attainment

There is no doubt--with the shifting business paradigm in full swing--women have made a powerful impression and will continue to do so. Our innate gifts as birthers of new ideology will change the face of entrepreneurship so much that soon the old façade won't be recognizable. It's the dawning of a new age and we're the luminaries.

Let me go back to my reference of "aligned female" and elaborate for the fullest understanding.

It's vital to understand that being strong, allowing the feminine divine to be honored in our words, thoughts and actions, referring to ourselves as "conscious," embracing our roles as leaders and visionaries, and intentionally creating our lives, is a journey... the journey of a lifetime.

The aligned woman is so much more than female. She:

has a vested interest in bringing her best to everything she does

willingly surrenders her plan to the wisdom of the Universe

commits on every level to the ever-unfolding process of life

pushes on with courage, no matter how hard the task

walks with herself, if necessary, so as not to dilute her efforts and energy with anything/anyone that might take her off-course

graciously serves others in accordance with her innate talents and gifts

models integrity because it's the core of who she is and how she conducts the business of her life

celebrates her unique talents-removing all hindrances to shining brilliantly-because she understands this world benefits from her exceptional contribution

is bold in her approach to life because there's no value in standing for nothing

accepts herself as-is, always

Modeling empowered divine femininity has many rewards; and it also comprises great responsibility; to whom much is given, much is required. Wielding power with benevolence requires a solid understanding that true power never attempts to manipulate, dominate or control. Only insecurity behaves that way. We are actively defining the future of business with our actions. We are creating something uniquely feminine.

Today I enjoy purpose-filled days in a business of my own that enables me to help others create purpose-filled lives through their own conscious businesses. I don’t even feel like I work anymore, really, because what I’ve chosen to do with my time feels more like play.

My journey taught me that God will work perfectly in our lives if you bring but one grace to the table: desire. The journey required traveling a rocky road filled with my own fears and doubts to arrive at clarity about how I wanted to live, but my desire carried me through until I was able to embrace my true life and make an unshakable commitment to living it. From there it was a matter of mustering the courage to jump in with full faith that Spirit would be there to catch me.

I also came to know that if you crave your best life, your purpose will seek you. At times we might be too busy, afraid, or distracted with the rest of life to hear our purpose calling. But if you show just an ounce of desire to live that purpose, the Universe will work like water to wither away the stone of whatever stands between you and its fulfillment.

Growing Up After Fifty: It’s Never Too Late to Bloom

Several factors contributed to my delayed adulthood. Being an artist, single and childless, I bypassed the rites of passage and responsibilities of most adults. My Depression-era parents’ version of responsibility made adulthood look unappealing anyway. Looking young, acting young, thinking and feeling young helped create the illusion that time was barely passing, and aging did not apply to me. Finally, having a small amount of family money – enough to barely get by on – was a double-edged sword. On the one hand it allowed me to paint, write, read, and pursue the spiritual studies I was drawn to. On the other, not having to earn much income allowed me to act out my insecurities by rejecting ambition, not taking risks, and living a far smaller, more protected life than another part of me longed for.

Hiding my light under a bushel was never my plan. I wanted to be a recognized artist. Hiding one’s light is simply what happens when fear is stronger than the desire to have one’s light seen and to add value to the world. I exhibited my art for years, maintaining a miniscule career that reflected my comfort zone. But when I discovered a spiritual calling, the heat was turned up on my inner conflict and my suffering intensified!

Now it was not just for my own glory, but for something greater that I wanted my light to shine. I knew I had something to share that filled me and could inspire others – if only I could find the form. I searched for my true work the way others seek true love. Many times I thought I’d found it, yet I continued to fear risk and rejection even more than I yearned to be of service. I remained a perpetual student long after I should have been teaching, as I waited to be invited to take my place onstage. Like a corked volcano, I was full of blocked energy. I tried to convince myself that being invisible was more spiritual than releasing my life force, but secretly I felt shame. I feared I would waste my life and the gifts I had been given.

How did you get started writing?

I have loved words since childhood. Writing has been my favorite activity in every professional position I have ever held, but my passion was ignited when I realized I could do it to serve others. My business focus is on inspiring and empowering female entrepreneurs with a conscious approach to wordsmithing solutions, e.g. copywriting, copyediting, ghostwriting, online marketing, etc. With a clear understanding of the responsibility of using my talents to enhance the success of others, it makes the exercise of writing a pure joy.
What do you do when you are not writing?

I am told my interests are eclectic and unusual, but I wouldn’t know because it’s just me being who I am. I love diversity and it definitely shows in my colorful tapestry of activities. When I’m not writing, I can be found making soap, in the kitchen concocting delectable desserts, creating dinner for friends from farm-fresh ingredients, having tea or wine with my girlfriends, reading at the beach, walking in a forest, enjoying cultural activities, gardening or napping.

I live my life as a means of enjoying the gift it is, but I am also crystal clear that modeling overcoming behavior is one of my primary purposes. There isn’t any particular magic to it; it’s simply a matter of deciding that every experience will serve a high purpose. Living that helps others find a way to do it in their own lives.

Simply? The power of the message. When we share our life experiences as a means to support and empower each other, the possibilities are limitless. I have spoken about transparency for years and it is only in sharing the rawness of life, our low points, our challenges, our moments of heartbreak that we realize we’re not alone and some how, some way, we, too will find a way.
Why is the topic of Overcoming important to you?

Because it’s human. Not one person on this planet will escape the necessity for overcoming something. I am here to assist others in recognizing that overcoming is a choice. Circumstance has no inherent power to dictate our future. We can chose to be overcomers in spite of external circumstance.
Why are you specially qualified to write about this topic?

Because I’ve proven I’m an overcomer; my life experience clearly shows that. The best way to learn how to do something is to learn from someone who’s already done it. I have moved beyond childhood sexual molestation and anyone in that same situation can be empowered by the conscious choice to use the experience to propel them toward health, wholeness and happiness.

This is my very first book published by a publisher, although I have two works-in-progress to be self-published in early 2010.

What sparks your creativity? Any tips to help others spark their own creativity?

Water and nature spark my creativity. Also, a necessary break. There is no shortage of ways to get the creative juices flowing, but when I’m stuck and cannot seem to get into the flow, I take a break to do something completely unrelated to the task in front of me. It consistently provides a ‘reboot’ so I can jump in again with a fresh perspective.
What do you think motivates people to become authors?

I cannot speak for other authors. For me, it’s the opportunity to positively impact peoples' lives.
What motivated you to get into this unusual industry?

Because it’s time in the evolutionary course of this planet to move from a patriarchy to a system influenced by the female divine. Compassion, openness, communication, collaboration… these are the crucial elements to bring humanity into full alignment and propel us forward to unity.

Starting over has resulted in both of us being happier beyond our wildest dreams. We found the delight and self-expression we wanted. Once apart for five years, now we have been back together for twelve delightful, fun-filled, precious years. As a Joint Adoration Society, our motto is:

Here are some things I learned through my journey:

· Staying in an unsatisfactory marriage kills your spirit and your spouse's, no matter who is the primary cause.

· You cannot take responsibility for a spouse who refuses to address his health issues. (Chronic depression is a physical problem manifesting emotionally).

· The universe is always supporting you, even though you often resist the next step.

· You own your life, and must take responsibility for your happiness and satisfaction.

· Despite the fact that you have not lived on your own for decades, as a single person again you can find your talents, support yourself financially, and experience full satisfaction.

· Friends are everywhere. Many old friends and new people show up.

· Separating can result in blessings you never imagined.

· Eventually, you may support others who have similar experiences.

Every marital situation is different. My story is not a prescription for other unhappy marriages to follow. It is an example of what may be a possible solution in some situations. What I recommend is applying courage whenever needed. At every juncture in your life, tune into your courage by listening to your inner guidance.

Getting Older (and Over!) The ”Not Enough” Syndrome by Marlene Oulton

Shortly before my 49^th birthday I decided to boldly go where many had dared to go before me and become an entrepreneur. On April 15, 2006, my company, Write Choice Virtual Assistants, was born. As strange as it even seems to me at times, the lessons of my childhood journey are applicable to every aspect of my life, including the everyday operations of my soulful business. As a conscious entrepreneur, I pull from this experience often to guide me. I’d like to share with you the five key insights of my pilgrimage:

1. Protective mechanisms are in place whether or not I realize or acknowledge them.

I don’t always understand why a project fails to materialize or a serious prospect seems to change her mind. I do know there exists an over-arching structure and order that conspires on my behalf to bring about my highest personal and professional growth. Whatever that wisdom, I can trust it absolutely.

2. My ”story” doesn’t define who I am.

I am a vibrant business owner who grows every day, and occasionally stumbles and falls on my bum! Because I constantly create myself anew, nothing from my past can effectively define or imprison me. I consciously choose to “bring my best game” to every day and know that’s enough.

3. Innate wisdom effortlessly guides me to the most opportune time to take action.

When in doubt, I do nothing until ultimate clarity presents itself. Although daily action is a crucial component in accomplishing my goals, I can also watch nature and use Her guidance to positively influence my actions. Nature provides a silent, fallow season – winter – to turn inward to rest and restore. Using this model, I reap the most benefit from my efforts. Smart living requires me to balance action with equal inaction.

4. My history doesn’t determine my level of success.

I can accomplish any lofty goal I imagine regardless of any perceived limitations. The past doesn’t dictate my future. I gift myself the pleasure and freedom to envision a life of my design. Family-of-origin, childhood circumstances, real or perceived impediments, lack of skills, none of these compare to the capacity of the human spirit to realize dreams.

5. I choose victimhood or empowerment every day with my words, thoughts, and actions.

We do not control the actions of others and yet we may be drawn into their drama. Like cast members of a play, energetically we agreed to these roles to teach AND learn. No matter my external circumstances, my responses can only come from one of two places: damage or abundance. I choose abundance.

Too Many Words Undermine Your Copywriting Efforts

I saw this recently in an article about copywriting:

'However, before you begin your copywriting venture it is essential to know the basics about copywriting so that you can channelize your creative skill in the right direction and open the doorways for millions to flow into your treasure house.'

Channelize? Open the doorways for millions? (Learning copywriting basics will deliver millions? Really?) Your treasure house?

High-impact copywriting is succinct AND avoids the use of colloquialisms (e.g. treasure house). If I were hired to edit this paragraph, this is how it would look:

'However, before beginning your copywriting career, learn the basics. Knowing the essentials is vital to writing captivating content, thereby opening additional channels of revenue.'

Although the first version is colorful, it requires readers to work to understand its meaning.

Too much work = disinterested reader

When your audience has to read and reread your content to gain understanding, their frustration level increases and instead of intriguing them, you lose them... maybe permanently. If you're trying to build your marketing list, establish yourself as an expert or increase sales, obviously losing a reader won't deliver the results you desire.

In copywriting, every word must pull its weight. Words are used strategically and chosen specifically to deliver the most impact. Writing isn't an accidental business activity. Your efforts must be smart, focused and speak effectively to your market... as succinctly as possible.

So, how do you do that?

Here are 7 insider copywriting tips for writing and editing highly-effective, targeted marketing content:

Know your target market before writing anything

Strategic placement of your keywords is an important component in your successful article marketing campaign. Keywords should be placed in the:

Keyword phrases shouldn't be overused. This is called "keyword stuffing" and you can be penalized by search engines.

Saturation percentages (the number of times your keyword(s) show up in your article] recommended by industry experts range from 3% to 10%, although the higher the inclusion percentage, the harder it is to retain the interest of the reader. The reason is: keywords become repetitive and sound like advertising. The way around this is to maintain a 3-5% inclusion rate while focusing on writing interesting content.

The most effective articles are a delicate balance between:

Which Takes Prominence - Service to Others Or Monetizing Business Activities?

Based on my observations, when business owners focus on making money first, service to others often suffers. However, when those same business owners shift their focus instead to "service first," the ideas and money seem to flow much easier.

Why?

I cannot say definitively because many factors are involved, but let's explore what's behind each approach.

Money first

Until we live in a society in which each person takes only what s/he needs and gives in equal measure based on individual abundance, choices, talents and strengths (this is the subject of a very different article!), we all agree cash money is the method of exchange for goods and services.

Okay. With that said, when we approach business with a "how can I monetize my _______________ (ideas, newsletter, information, Web site, expertise, etc.)" mindset, inherent is a myopic perspective. Our viewpoint is so narrow, we limit ourselves without even realizing it. A "Money first" mentality can only ever deliver money first... above everything else. Service takes its place as a second priority, if at all.

Service (and people) first

When we grow business based on how we can best serve others and that is the heart's true desire, a spiritual/magical element is introduced to facilitate our success. It not only allows us to achieve our money-based goals, but it does so in a much more creative and supported fashion. On some level it just "makes sense" and "feels better" based on recent energetic and cultural reprioritizations around money.

A "Service and People first" mentality delivers results and relationships. Money and deep fulfillment just seem to follow organically.

There's nothing wrong with money. Depending on your personal relationship with money, though, it can be hard to generate more by focusing exclusively on money first. What makes the process easier is opening up to greater possibility. It begins by asking yourself...

How can I best serve others with my efforts?

A simple shift in thinking is all that's required. The result is a beautiful fusion that meets both economic needs and philanthropic desires.

Female Entrepreneurs: Stop Negotiating Your True Value

As conscious entrepreneurs, we artistically combine our expertise with a focus on service to humankind. In an attempt to "help" our clients, we can find ourselves in the position of negotiating our prices.

Let me ask you: How many $10K business events can you afford to attend right now? If you say, "None," you'd be joining with the majority of entrepreneurs in the same position.

Do you think the speaker at one of these events is concerned that you cannot afford it? Nope. Enough can, and will pay the admittance fee because the content promised is worth every penny... and probably more.

Is your financial situation the concern of the speaker? Nope.

Should s/he even care that you perceive you're being excluded? Nope.

There are tons of experiences you may not be able to afford. That's simply not anyone else's concern. And it shouldn't be.

Let's look at this from another angle: It's very likely your products or services are not accessible to a portion of the worldwide population. Should you make special accommodations so they are accessible to everyone? Nope. Why not? Because that's probably not the reason you started your business.

The bottom line is: You're in business to make money.

When we provide a cost quote and our client says, "I just cannot afford it," the natural thing to do - especially as female entrepreneurs - is respond by making accommodations. We reduce our prices, throw in additional hours or products, or offer payment options.

If we are willing to sell off and negotiate rates, we're essentially saying,

"My (products or) services are worth the value
YOU place on them."

Yikes and holy, moly. You will be back into corporate chaos in no time if that's how you truly approach business.

I heard it said recently that negotiating does two things:

It reinforces my lack consciousness

It reinforces my clients' lack consciousness

Whew! That's harsh. Take a deep breath and read it again. If you see yourself in this discussion, it's never too late to begin honoring your value.

Let's explore each of these points.

How does negotiating reinforce my lack consciousness?

Entering into negotiations is an activity that places you in a disempowered position. It leaves you explaining your rates. It forces you to invest precious time for which you will not be able to bill. It dishonors the thousands of hours you've invested in becoming a professional who has a valuable service to offer.

When it comes to your value and your business, the last place you want to find yourself is tied up in the trunk! That's where negotiating leaves you. Instead you need to be in the driver's seat.

Lack consciousness is the perpetual lie you tell yourself with your words, thoughts and actions. It is you telling you - in the most subtle and damaging way - somehow you don't deserve the rates you charge because you're just not worth it.

Who determines our worth?

We do.

Before you sigh in resignation and think we have to delve into your childhood to find the answers of why you're where you are in life and think the way you do, relax. We don't have to dredge up anything. We are going to start right here, right now.

I'm going to share something with you that contains the secret to unlocking a completely new approach... one that leaves you newly empowered and clear on the FACT that you are worth every bit of your fee. As soon as you encompass this, I want you to expand this concept and double your rates!

Bold?

Yes, that's why we're here... to continually push the edge of self-comfort and familiarity to explore what lies beyond.

The secret? It's so simple. Every time you find yourself hesitating when someone asks you your rates, wanting to make special accommodations because your client "cannot afford it," or beginning to think of ways to make it work for your client, say aloud:

"I destroy and uncreate everything
I believe I was and am.
I destroy and uncreate myself today."

How does this set you on a new path of declaring your worth?

Tell me yourself after you've said this AT LEAST twice daily (upon waking and upon retiring, and as circumstances arise during the day) for a mere 30 days.

You will not be the same person. You will sit up straighter. Your voice will not falter when you speak truth to your value in the form of your rates. You will be deeply empathetic when fellow entrepreneurs express their woes in not being able to afford you, but still, your rates stand as-is. Doesn't that sound profoundly freeing and powerful? Isn't it worth a try?

(A natural question surfaces: "When I destroy and uncreate, with what do I full the vacuum?" Answer: Nothing. Spiritually speaking, you cannot destroy or uncreate the truest essence of you, so you don't have to worry about undoing and end up as nothing. This exercise can only deliver a more aligned version of you; a version that knows innately you're worth even more than you're currently charging! And when you're ready, you''ll increase your rates yet again to match the ever-growing confidence to be compensated based on a value YOU assign.)

How does negotiating reinforce my clients' lack consciousness?

As business owners, we are (hopefully) modeling good business practices. With our words, thoughts and actions, we must convey resolute confidence in our talents.. and service rates.

If I negotiate my rates, I enable, or reinforce, my clients' false beliefs (that they cannot manifest adequate funds to hire me, as an example)... beliefs I don't even hold to be true. I become the last link in a very long chain of life experiences that reinforces their "truths" - beliefs founded in limitation (the inability to manifest funds to pay for professional services).

I do them no favors by engaging or entertaining this notion. It is the essence of a co-dependent collaboration and in the words of one friend, "You will only see asses and elbows!" (Interpretation: I will run away as fast as I can from this scenario.)

There are plenty of writers who will negotiate rates. I'm not one of them. I know my value and it is my intent to show you yours.

Our clients need to know we are 100% confident in the value of our contribution to their success.

Perceived value is everything. If you are sure about your rates, it makes clients think, "Wow, Charlon must be really good if she charges $495 for an hour-long consultation. One way or another, I must find a way to work with her!"

Now, no single negotiation is inherently catastrophic to our businesses. But, over time these actions serve to erode our sense of self-value. Don't even set this pattern in motion!

As appropriate and inspired, we can occasionally barter, negotiate or even donate our time, but these practices cannot be the foundation of our business.

How do you maintain a sense of service to others AND a commitment to maintaining the value of your time?

Begin today. If this is an issue with which you struggle, it's simply an unexercised muscle. The Marines have a saying, "Pain is weakness leaving the body." There's no need to be pained any longer by the subtle and ever-eroding impact of negotiating. You will never grow a solid business on a weak foundation of changing the rules every time a client cannot afford you.

If you're willing to trade your vast and precious life knowledge as if it has no value, it won't... for you or anyone else. Remember: We teach people how to treat us.

How do you respond when clients cannot afford your rates or want to negotiate?

The answer is obvious and simple. Without saying, "No," you plant seeds of thought and leave the future client (I'm being highly optimistic here!) with several options. Here are sample responses to give you some ideas:

"My clients benefit from expert copywriting in too many ways to count. I know when you have the funds, you'll make this a priority. Based on the experience of former clients, professional copywriting dramatically increases exposure and sales. In the mean time, here are some referrals to learn more about copywriting so when we begin working together, you'll already have insider knowledge of the process."

"I completely understand the challenges of delegating funds for copywriting. When I started my first company, I did everything myself. I thought I had to learn and know how to do it all and that left me frustrated and exhausted. It was such a key to learn to delegate tasks to professionals. When I did that, I noticed a huge energy boost and increased profits! I see so much potential in your vision and would love to help you with expert copywriting when the time is right. As you can see, the details of this topic are manageable 100 different ways. The bottom line is: Stop negotiating. Your personal and professional values are at stake! Treat them as the treasures they are.

The How's and Why's of Shifting From Conventional Business Marketing to Conscious Marketing

We are in the midst of a massive shift in how business is conducted. Heart-based, conscious business practices and integrity have made their way into the marketing methods of spirit-based entrepreneurs.

It's about time.

Ten years ago I was told by several trusted mentors, coaches and industry leaders that my ideas just weren't "how things are done." Listening to them went against my inner knowing, but I followed their expert guidance because I assumed they knew better. They were veterans in business, after all; I wasn't.

Not one of them suggested I trust--and act on--my inner-knowing, even if it went against convention. Not one of them said I was just ahead of my time and to use existing methods while integrating my own conscious principles.

It was incredibly frustrating to listen to advice from people I was paying to advise me because there was a louder, undeniable clarity screaming from within. As hard as I tried to apply and use their tried-and-true templates, they didn't work the same for me.

It would take me many years of trying to integrate what was clearly working for others--and having these techniques NOT work for me--before I realized the only way for me was MY WAY. I would have to figure it out for myself, use my intuition to guide me and be a bold voice to integrate soulfulness and entrepreneurship. Not only did it resonate for me, but I knew there was a place for it within the mainstream. Some how, some way I was going to find out how to make it work. In retrospect, all I needed to do was wait. Admittedly, waiting wasn't easy.

Fast-forward ten years later and here we are; high profile business owners now signing their emails with "In Service," or "Blessings," and infusing their marketing content with transparency and love. What a refreshing change!

And much more than refreshing, this heartful approach has a dramatic and beneficial ripple-effect on our society. Mutually-beneficial collaborations are established every day. We help others succeed while they help us. We create supportive communities in which we all thrive. And the masses, our clients and prospects, are responding.

Being courageous and speaking truth and authenticity in all areas of our lives puts us on the front lines. While it may be an uncomfortable role, the irony is: soulfully and energetically, many business owners agreed to be the waymakers, the lightworkers, the path clearers, the visionaries, the knowers.

We feel comfortable in these roles in our personal lives, but somehow in business we think different rules apply. They don't.

What was once important to separate--home life and work life--now melds into one life encompassing all endeavors, personal and professional.

So, how do we shift our thinking, make it expansive, be a model, and allow others to benefit from our unique knowledge and brilliance?

You have a sense of humor, don't you? Use it... often.

You have your own perspective, don't you? Give us an insight.

You have vulnerabilities, don't you? (Within reason) Share them and what you learn from them.

You experience challenge at times, don't you? Let us know what they are and how they expand your ability to adapt.

You have opinions, don't you? Hearing them allows us to ponder things we've never before considered.

No one can or will ever conduct business like you. That may be a good thing or a not-so-good thing, but what's most important is allowing others to get to know the real you. People buy from those they know, like and trust. Open up. Try something new. Be more vulnerable. Be more edgy in your communications by doing something out of the ordinary for you.

The heart of your business is you. Inject your unique personality with every opportunity. It's important that prospects choose you because you give them a chance to know who you truly are... as a person AND competent, conscious business owner.

The Violence of Thought

As women we inflict violence on other women; the violence of thought.

Do we really believe our thoughts are harmless; that they have no power to inflict great damage? Do we fail to fully understand that we actively nourish or starve each other with the energy of our thoughts? Have we forgotten we are all connected? Do our synapses fail to fire with the clarity that even if we hold our tongues, we actively participate in the enslavement of each other as long as the undermining thoughts remain?

We sit smugly, silently thinking because we suppress our words, we have exhibited some gracious act; that we are innocents. In fact, we have actually committed a worse offense than giving voice to our thoughts.

The violence of thought is worse than the expression of words because it politely veils our cerebrations; the truth of our own thinking.

While desiring to appear pious and self-restrained, WE STILL HAVE thoughts of judgment, criticism, correction, blame, faultfinding, condemnation, persecution, accusation, disapproval, objection, opposition and harsh opinion.

How scheming, and how preposterous to assume we have fooled anyone but ourselves.

If we are not to speak, let us neither taint the ether—and each other—with our silently poisonous thoughts.

May we instead become consumed with the truth that the cost of toxic thoughts is too high to entertain them for even a moment.

May we consciously replace them with the power of thought-vitality that nourishes, builds, supports, comforts, cherishes, honors, nurtures, encourages, cultivates, mentors, attends, sustains, educates, shelters, reveres and values.

For it is a woman who truly understands the power of her thoughts who changes the world moment-by-moment by wisely managing every one.
